What was the pixies biggest hit

Released as a single in , any fears that it would break the band big in America were quickly soothed by the creepy fisheyed music video. Suddenly everything explodes into a chorus that where the guys starts roaring at you to repent like a preacher who sees your soul dangling just above the eternal hellfire.

Dig for Fire Bossanova , Of course, the whole thing eventually devolved into the the kind of confusion and guitar acrobatics that Pixies fans were used to, but there was something more there. Ultimately the chorus has just enough ambiguity for anyone to write themselves into it. Never really a political band, this is perhaps the closest they ever got to a message song.

Especially in America, the Pixies were a band for art students and hipsters. Lots of whores. The lyrics are typical Frank Black stream-of-consciousness stuff about a time he went scuba diving in Puerto Rico. Here he convincingly demonstrates that he can physically abuse his guitar just as well live as in the Studio.

In Heaven has Francis sounding surprisingly strained. It is a nice way to end the single; and matches the intensity of the cover quite well. Seriously this is some good ish man, it has that sing along catchy hook, and those sweet vocals by Frank. The bass on it is also awesome as well as the singing. I have been a Pixies nut for 25 years. Production on this song is faultless.

What I love about the Pixies is that they are different, eclectic, and awesome to watch live. It is a brilliantly lo-fi and eccentric track, and brings about the Pixies signature screechy style and light-hearted tone into the fore. By the third time the chorus comes around you should be orgasming bricks.

Now my favorite and a classic like no other. And I have been listening to doolittle since it was released. The Pixies never had a "hit" song in the traditional sense of the word. A handful of tunes like "Here Comes Your Man" and "Letter to Memphis" climbed the Modern Rock charts in the late s and early s, but nothing even went near the Billboard Hot People who listened to nothing but Top 40 music probably never even knew they existed, and the band broke up in without a lot of fanfare.

However, a funny thing started to happen soon after that. Artists like Kurt Cobain and Thom Yorke began citing them as huge influences, and films like Fight Club began featuring their music. The legend of the Pixies was born, and when they reformed in , they played to throngs of young fans who were barely out of diapers when the band broke up.

Many of them knew every word to every song.
