Gimp why can i erase

In GIMP, alpha just means transparency. So in addition to R, G, and B, the alpha channel gives your pixels information about transparency to work with. The ability to make transparent pixels is what allows the eraser to really erase. So it uses this really obvious checkerboard pattern to make it clear where transparent pixels are. This pattern is not saved in your image. I just use it to peak-up my pics I take with my point-and-shoot. I plan to get more involved, but I cannot understand the manual.

Anyhow, I started to work on some vacation pictures and found that will not do anything. Note, this method will only work for GIMP versions 2. It will not work for GIMP 2. This will ensure that the layers inside the layer group stay in order. Now our layer group has a mask.

The mask is white, which means we can still see all of the original pixels from our three layers. However, if I paint black on the layer mask, it will essentially act as an eraser. The areas where I have painted black have now shown up as transparency on my image, effectively erasing all of the pixels from all three layers at the same time. The eraser tool may not work if you have the pixels or transparency on a particular layer locked.

I can still paint on this layer with something like the paint tool, but I can not use my eraser on this layer. The alpha channel should now be unlocked, allowing me to erase pixels on this layer once again. You can also enroll in any of my GIMP classes. Let us also understand another aspect of erasing to transparent feature. For enabling selection around this flower, go to the Select menu of the menu bar and click on it.

This time we will erase the small area of this image to transparent. Just drag the brush tip of the eraser tool on any area of the image, and it will erase the background area from that particular section. You will see transparency in that section because we have converted this layer to transparent. Because the eraser tool has a brushstroke on its tip, you can choose any pattern from a parameter of the brush of the Eraser tool for erasing any area of the image to transparent.

I will choose this star shape pattern as the brush tip of the eraser tool and make a click on the background of this image, and you will notice that the area where I use patterned eraser has transparency.

So this way, you can make any pattern on the image with erased transparency of that pattern. Now go to the bottom of the layer panel and click on the Create new layer button for having a new layer in the layer panel. Select the transparent layer on the layer panel and click on the transparent pattern area of the flower image with the help of the bucket tool. It will fill the transparent layer with your selected color, and you can see this color through a transparent pattern of the flower image layer.

You can change the color of the pattern at any time by changing the color of the background layer of the transparent layer. So this is the nice way you can erase any particular area of any image into transparent and use it to make a good design.

You can also go through the other parameters of this feature for a better understanding of it. This is a guide to GIMP erase to transparent. You may also have a look at the following articles to learn more —.
